Digital Technology
In my work with my Regional Adviser, Bob Read, last year I became increasingly aware that digital technology is radically transforming the way schools and colleges function as institutions. In an early project meeting Bob suggested that I watch a video clip that summarises some key insights into the way that digital transformation is taking place in terms of teaching and learning –
Whilst this video focusses on the use of digital technology in teaching and learning, it also touches upon the way the links between learners, teachers and the workplace are also being transformed.
Engaging Employers
In addition we are constantly being encouraged by Ofsted and government policy documents like A New Conversation to forge much closer links between ourselves and employers.
This project therefore set out to explore both the benefits and the challenges involved in creating an e-networking group to improve communication channels between the employers, students and college staff who are involved in the delivery of workplace programmes in Animal Studies. It is envisaged that improvements in the information flow between the three stakeholder groups could bring significant benefits for all concerned. However, the introduction of any new information management system may be problematic if the benefits are not soon apparent to key partners. The project aimed therefore to research the views and concerns of the key partners and to suggest a format for an e network that would be likely to succeed. In my original action research proposal, I had intended to set up and run the network for a trial period. However, I have had to shorten the scope of the project as a result of my imminent maternity leave. As a result I had to modify my original research questions.
